Halo figure disassembled "blueprints" - Wed, 09/29/2010 — Asphalt

Turns out that the upper chests are solid and the only crackable item is the abdoman.  I took three Halo figures apart today for their armor bits.

I figured I'd post these incase anyone else wanted to take one of these apart for the first time.

The process was incredibly simple.  Aside from the hips, everything is put together with hard rubber.  To to get them apart you need three things.

1.  A large Microwave Bowl.

2.  A microwave the bowl will fit in.

3.  Enough water to fill the bowl high enough to cover the figure.

Once you have gathered that up there is nothing to it.  Put your figure into the fetal position, so it takes up less room in the bowl, and cover him with water.  Put a little extra in for boil off and evaporation.  You do not want him to stick up out of the water.  Then put the bowl and figure in the microwave.  Depending on the power of your appliance, nuke him for 3-4 minutes.  This will be enough time to boil the water and soften the rubber.

Carefully remove your scalding hot figure from the water, use a fork or pair of pliers, and quickly start pulling him apart.  The arms and legs will come apart very easily.  Most all of the armor bits are superglued on so they will take a little pulling.  Dont use pliers to pull off the armor bits, they will leave marks in the soft rubber.

If you need to crack the hips, you will need a hammer.  Lay the hips on their side with the seam facing up.  One or two sharp cracks on the middle of the seam should split it nicely.  If the second hit doesnt do it, microwave the hips again to soften the glue.

And there you have it.  Quick and easy.  I plan on picking up the Air troopers when they come out.  If I do I will take pics of the process for you.
